MYRADAR is a great app for sharing local data visually by uploading a picture. This Hi-Def app show pictures of current weather from all over the United States. Picture can be taken on an iTouch or iPad and easily uploaded by students daily. At Wiley, we are lucky to have a nice view of downtown for students to take a picture of the weather over the skyline and upload to this app.

Resource Collector: Gretchen RossAs a 5th grade Science and Social Studies teacher at Wiley International Magnet School in Raleigh, NC, I am fortunate to have multiple outdoor learning spaces to take my learners so they can commune with nature and build greater understandings and appreciation for the natural world they inhabit. As an Egret Fellow from the 2014 cohort, I have been blessed with connections to 5th grade science teachers from across NC that have made a commitment to taking learning and discovery outside of our classoom utilizing our own campuses. We continue to collaborate and discovery ways we can intertwine citizen science into our instruction of the NC Science Essential Standards. Environmental stewardship at an early age is vital to the development of a lifelong love for nature and to spark a desire to explore the natural world that sustains life. Learning happens by doing and experiencing! This blog is meant to serve as a sharing spot for my experiences and what you all share with me. The Weebly is meant to be resource for teachers to reduce the barriers from taking our learners outdoors for learning experiences and to link elementary classrooms with Citizen Science opportunities that align with their curriculum.
